Meditation App Developers Enter Digital Health Market

Headspace, the formerly British-headquartered company now based in Santa Monica and known for its simplified meditation app, announced it plans to turn those apps into digital medicine and a “prescription app,” to be released in 2020. The Los Angeles Business Journal reports Headspace will begin randomized control trials this summer and reports its technology has already been used in over 65 research studies.

Rocket Lab Announces New Launch Plans

Huntington Beach-based satellite launch company Rocket Lab told SoCal Tech that their next rocket launch will take place between June 23 and June 6. Following an anomaly detected in one of their rocket’s motor controllers, Rocket Lab elected to push their test date back in order to complete more trials. In the near future, the company aims to launch multiple satellites via rockets, including an educational project, IRVINE01, which the Irvine CubeSat STEM Program created.

Sonos Releases New Speaker Line

Sonos, the Santa Barbara audio and home theater company, released a new product today, which they’re calling the Sonos Beam, according to TechCrunch. It’s manufactured to rival its chief competitor, the Apple Home Pod, which sells for roughly $350 per speaker and is compatible with Siri. At $399e each, the Beam is the first Sonos device compatible with Amazon Alexa technology as well as Airplay. The company told TechCrunch the speaker is intended to be more portable, and is roughly 60 percent smaller than the previous model.
