Developer Proposes 34-Story Tower

A 34-story residential tower called The Eastern is proposed in Beverly Hills by Millennium Partners.

Millennium Partners Los Angeles, the Hollywood arm of New York-based global developer Millennium Partners, recently submitted a development application for a 34-story residential tower in Beverly Hills named The Eastern.

If approved, the project will become one of the tallest in Beverly Hills and replace a single-story retail center.

Designed by New York-based Handel Architects in conjunction with Santa Monica-based landscape architecture firm Rios, The Eastern would rise at 8300 Wilshire Blvd. Its proposal calls for 249 condominiums, intended to be attainable for the next generation of Beverly Hills residents, including 22 affordable units.

“For too long, the east side of Beverly Hills has lacked the energy and street-level activation benefitting our city,” Bobbe Joy Dawson, a local businesswoman and 45-year resident of Beverly Hills, said in a statement. “This visionary proposal will be an exciting, eye-catching landmark on our eastern edge boldly announcing to all who pass by.”

Betting on a density bonus

Millennium Partners is seeking density bonuses to achieve extra height, situated adjacent to the Purple Line extension, which will add seven stations between downtown and Westwood later this year.

“Beverly Hills is one of the most attractive and desirable communities in the Los Angeles region, and it promises to grow even more exciting when Metro extends its subway system west into the city later this year,” Mario Palumbo Jr., managing partner of Millenium Partners and board chair of nonprofit organization Friends of the High Line, said in a statement. “We firmly believe our brand of amenity-rich, multifamily, mixed-use development is (a) natural fit for Beverly Hills and will breathe much-needed new life into this end of town.”

In addition to the residential units and amenities being proposed at 8300 Wilshire, The Eastern will also include 473 parking spaces and 10,600 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Millennium plans to lease the space to two separate restaurants.
