IKEA has just opened its first ever small-format store in the Los Angeles market, an 11,000-square-foot retail shop in Arcadia.

The store, located in the Santa Anita Center at 400 S. Baldwin Ave., serves as an expansion of the IKEA Arcadia Plan and Order Point and as a catalyst in the company’s broader strategy to grow in the Los Angeles market, according to IKEA.

“As someone born and raised in this area, I understand firsthand the importance of having access to affordable, high-quality home furnishings that embody the unique spirit of our community,” Gustavo Tinajero, IKEA market area manager for Los Angeles, said in a statement. “Our mission is to simplify the process of creating a home you love, and these new locations are a major step towards that goal.”

The small Arcadia store is a highly condensed version of its full-fledged retail and warehouse concept, with the average IKEA store in the U.S. spanning approximately 260,000 square feet. It is a newly developed format for the company and the only existing IKEA small store in the U.S. right now is in San Francisco.

“Our expansion goal is simple: to be where people are, whenever and however they want to experience IKEA,” Javier Quiñones, chief executive and chief sustainability officer of IKEA U.S., said in a statement. “We have been testing different store formats to enhance customer convenience, make home delivery more cost-efficient and reach our customers where they live, work and socialize. IKEA Arcadia represents a key milestone in this exciting journey towards a more connected and accessible IKEA experience for everyone.”

According to the Swedish retailer, the new small store focuses on accessibility and convenience, bringing IKEA closer to the community while offering a personalized experience for customers planning their home furnishing needs.

It offers more than 1,000 home furnishing products, including a curated selection of IKEA’s most popular goods and home solutions – with an emphasis on kitchen, bedroom and living rooms.

Items can be ordered for delivery or for free pick-up the next day. In addition to home products, the new Arcadia store also offers several packaged food goods from the Swedish Food Market for immediate takeaway. All services offered at a traditional IKEA store are offered at IKEA Arcadia as well.
