Rocket Lab USA Inc. etched another milestone this month with the fastest turnaround from contract signing to launch.
The Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes mission for a confidential commercial customer launched in Mahia, New Zealand, at 11:54 p.m. on Nov. 5.
The mission was Rocket Lab’s 12th Electron launch this year, besting the company’s previous record of 10 launches achieved in 2023.
The mission was launched less than 10 weeks from its launch contract signing, making it one of the company’s fastest turnarounds yet from contract to launch.
Rocket Lab Chief Executive Peter Beck said the Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes mission showcased the best attributes of the Rocket Lab team and Electron, including a streamlined process from contract to orbit.
“Now 12 for 12 this year across commercial, civil and national security missions, I’m proud of the team for delivering launch after launch as we continue to deliver a record year across launch and space systems,” Beck said in a statement. “This quick turnaround from contract to launch is not only a showcase of Electron’s capability, but also of the relentless and fast-paced execution by the experienced team behind it that continues to deliver trusted and reliable access to space for our customers.”
Historically it took years from contract signing to launch, causing bottlenecks and limited launch opportunities for satellite operators, the Rocket Lab release said.
Rocket Lab’s changed this by making it possible for customers to book and launch in just weeks.
