LA500: Mario Cordero

Executive Director, Port of Long Beach

Cordero, an international maritime industry leader and an attorney for more than three decades, has headed up one of the country’s busiest ports, the Port of Long Beach, since 2017. In his role as executive director of the port, Cordero oversees a staff of more than 500 people, an had an annual budget of $635 million in 2023. Long Beach had a container processing increase in January of about 18% year over year as local ports continue to recover from last year’s lengthy contract disputes with dock workers. In addition to his position at the Port of Long Beach, Cordero serves on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and is a member of the L.A. County Economic Resiliency Task Force. From 2011 to 2017, he served as a member of the Federal Maritime Commission following an appointment by former President Barack Obama.
