Guo has founded a series of successful startups across the tech industry, most recently a social content and consumer relations management platform called Passes Inc. Passes, which closed a $40 million series A round earlier this year, helps content creators to monetize fan engagement. Guo previously served as a program designer at Snap Inc. and at Quora before launching data platform Scale AI Inc. in 2016. Scale AI has grown to a valuation of more than $7.3 billion and manages machine learning data for companies such as Meta and OpenAI. Guo makes unicorn investments as founder and general partner of early-stage fund Backend Capital.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I’ve received is to just accept that sexism exists and that I will be held to a higher bar. It helped me put focus on the right things to get to where I’m at today.
What’s your favorite movie, all time and in any category?
“Harry Potter” because it was my childhood.
What’s the best thing about living in Los Angeles?
It’s the creative hub of the United States. I love meeting talented people who took the risk to move out here and pursue their passions.
