Mazziotta, who has been on the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine faculty for 40 years, rose through the ranks at UCLA Health, becoming chief executive in 2015. He oversees the UCLA medical school and health system with four hospitals – the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, and the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Psychiatric Hospital – more than 250 outpatient clinics and offices and 3,400 faculty. As UCLA Health’s top official, Mazziotta will oversee the development of the California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy at a UCLA research park planned for the former Westside Pavilion shopping mall in Westwood, which UCLA bought at the end of last year for $700 million. Mazziotta has published more than 260 research papers and has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians.
