“Berggruen co-founded the Berggruen Institute with the goal of working with thinkers across cultures and disciplines to address and tackle major political and cultural issues facing societies. He publishes Noema, a magazine dedicated to exploring impactful global issues. Berggruen, who grew up in Paris, was influenced by the works of Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and Nietzsche, and the study of philosophy and politics, among other disciplines and topics, continues to inform his work and that of his namesake foundation. Berggruen, along with institute co-founder Nathan Gardels, published “Intelligent Governance for the 21st Century: A Middle Way Between West and East” in 2012, and in 2019 “Renovating Democracy: Governing in the Age of Globalization and Digital Capitalism.”

What’s the best advice you ever received? Life is your voyage through existence. Make it the journey of your heart and soul.

What’s your favorite film? “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

What’s at the top of your bucket list? Walks with my children – I can never get enough.
