Franchise Expansion in Southern California Brings New Business Opportunities with Positive Community Impact

Currently, 60% of the California population is living in an area with little to no access to quality child care options, according to the Center for American Progress. Demand for high-quality early education and care has never been higher in the United States. Primrose Schools® is a national system of accredited private preschools that provides a premier early education and care experience for children and families. While many other providers use off-the-shelf curricula, Primrose partnered with early education experts to design the Balanced Learning® curriculum, an approach that provides a comprehensive learning path for students. Primrose Schools has more than 500 franchise locations in 34 states nationwide and is expanding in Southern California following recent reports of the six-county region’s strong economic outlook.

With a staggering 88% of parents with children ages six and under saying it is important to live or work near their child’s early education provider, the expansion of Primrose Schools in the region will help provide the early education and care offerings residents desire. Southern California communities stand to benefit from an increase in nearby live, work, play and learn developments.

Primrose Schools’ development in the region also provides a unique opportunity for individuals interested in owning their own business, through franchising.

“Franchise owners are a critical part of the success of Primrose,” said Nick Koros, chief development officer for Primrose Schools. “By bringing high-quality care to new communities across the nation, franchise owners have a unique opportunity to do well while doing good for the communities they serve. In 2024, we’re looking forward to providing more entrepreneurs in Southern California with impactful, innovative and profitable business opportunities that enable them to pursue new career aspirations while giving back to their communities.”

From former educators to engineers, Primrose franchise owners come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and each has their own unique story to share. Read real experiences from three different Primrose franchise owners about finding growth and meaning in their Primrose journey.

Anne Almond
The benefits of early education and care for families with working parents can’t be overstated. As a working mother, franchise owner Anne Almond understands the importance of having high-quality care within her community, which is why she opened the first Primrose school in Kentucky. “I wanted to work as much as I wanted to be a really good mom, and Primrose gave me the opportunity to be my own boss and to work with children that are learning and growing. It’s the best decision I ever made,” shared Anne.

Betsy Tonniges
For Betsy Tonniges, Ed.D, opening a Primrose school allowed her to provide a valuable resource for the children in her community who did not have access to high-quality education and care. After working with K–5 children, Betsy saw firsthand the value of an education that properly prepared students for elementary school and beyond.

“Every year I can gift 48 children who are ready for kindergarten to my fellow principals, and they’re ready to go,” said Betsy. “It’s wonderful to see these children who five years ago were just babies in our program now entering third or fourth grade and thriving as we are continue to shape their future.”

Ehab Eskander
Ehab Eskander, who owns 13 Primrose schools in Columbus, Ohio, was drawn to this chance to make a difference in his community through his schools. “It’s not about the financial part alone. This is more of how you’re going to impact the next generation, the next group of leaders, the next person in your community that you’re helping grow,” said Ehab.

Primrose franchise owners all share a common goal: to do well while making a meaningful difference in their community. Currently, Primrose is only offering franchises in California to prospective franchise owners who meet certain financial and business experience qualifications. Primrose has six schools in the Northern California region, one school already in the Southern California region and 15 locations in the development pipeline with additional opportunities for expansion in the following areas:

• Los Angeles
• Irvine
• Laguna Niguel
• Mission Viejo
• Pasadena
• Redondo Beach
• Valencia
• Burlingame
• San Diego
• Thousand Oaks

As more and more parents value this critical time in a child’s development, Primrose Schools franchise owners are positioned to address the growing need for excellent, innovative early childhood education and care nationwide.
