President and Chief Executive, AltaSea at the Port
of Los Angelesea

Tamminen was named president and chief executive of AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles, a 35-acre ocean technology hub that is the nation’s largest blue economy center, at the start of 2022. Previously the secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency and the chief executive of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, Tamminen led AltaSea’s launch of USC’s Nuzhdin Aquaculture Lab and Holdfast Aquaculture Lab. Tamminen is also one of the leaders on California’s push to become one of four national hydrogen fuel hubs. AltaSea recently secured over $24 million in government funding to help build out its educational programs and campus.
