Katie Doherty, PE, ENV SP is the city engineer for the City of Manhattan Beach. Her primary responsibilities include of the design and construction oversight of the city’s infrastructure, including streets, water system, sewer system, storm drain system, park facilities, city buildings and transportation/traffic systems. She also plays a major role in developing and evaluating the city’s Capital Improvement Program, which schedules the physical improvements based on community priorities, sound planning, and revenue projections.
Current significant projects that Doherty is overseeing includes the rebuilding of Fire Station #2 to replace the original Fire Station that was built in 1954, and the Polliwog Park project which involves the installation of a playground that needs to be designed to withstand flooding, as the park also acts as a flood detention basin to collect rain runoff and protect the stormwater system from being overwhelmed.
