Teledyne Controls, a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Inc., has announced a partnership with Inmarsat to support airlines’ digital operations across Europe as part of the Iris air traffic modernization program.
Combining Inmarsat and Teledyne Control’s innovations into one comprehensive end-to-end product will help bring real-time connectivity to aircraft across Europe, according to a release from Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies. Teledyne Controls, in El Segundo, makes products to help airlines collect, manage and deliver aircraft data more intelligently.
Inmarsat, based in London, provides mobile satellite communications around the world. It is developing Iris to deliver cost-effective satellite-based data link communications over Europe.
The partnership, announced late last month, will marry Inmarsat’s SB-S platform powered by its global ELERA satellite network with Teledyne Control’s aircraft interface device-enabled GroundLink Comm communications system and third-party electronic flight bag software currently installed on over 14,000 planes at 200 airlines.
This partnership means more airlines can reap the benefits – from reduced delays, fuel savings and reduced carbon emissions, to better situational awareness for pilots – achieving greater return on investment, which is critical as the aviation industry looks to continue its recovery from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Teledyne release said.
In addition, Inmarsat and Teledyne will integrate and test with commercial off-the-shelf electronic flight bag applications from a variety of third-party partners.
