Homeland Security Funding Increased for L.A.

Los Angeles is in line for a much larger share of the $3.5 billion in annual anti-terrorism grants from the federal Department of Homeland Security.

L.A., which has received about $60 million in three earlier rounds of Homeland Security funding, has been allocated $61.3 million as part of the Urban Area Security Initiative allocation for the 2005 fiscal year, according to Elizabeth Kaltman, a spokeswoman for Mayor James Hahn.

The city joins several other large urban areas that will see more of the largesse following calls from their respective mayors for additional funding to accelerate equipment purchases to prevent or respond to a terrorist attack.
