L.A. Hotel Prices Increasing

Visitors to Los Angeles paid an average of $162 a night for hotel accommodations during the first six months of 2014, an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period in 2013, according to the biannual Hotels.com Hotel Price Index. The index listed Los Angeles as the fourth most popular travel destination for Americans, up one slot from last year.

The average price of a hotel room in the busy city of Los Angeles is, unsurprisingly, steeper than the American average of $137 a night, but even that number increased 5 percent from the same period last year.

“Hotel prices have been steadily climbing for a few years now and the index has nearly returned to the peak that it reached in the first half of 2007,” Neha Parikh, vice president and general manager of Hotels.com North America, said in a statement.

The top three destinations, in order, were Las Vegas, New York and Orlando, Fla.

The index is based on bookings made on Hotels.com sites, and uses prices actually paid by customers, including tax and fees, rather than advertised rates.
