Site Scooped: SpinMedia Group, a Hollywood digital media company, has acquired Death and Taxes, a men’s lifestyle site in New York. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Death and Taxes joins Spin, Vibe and Celebuzz as part of SpinMedia’s entertainment, music and lifestyle portfolio.

MIRACLE MILE

Seed Funding: Dealflicks, a Miracle Mile firm that calls itself the Priceline for movie theaters, has raised $1.7 million in seed funding. Investors included 500 Startups and Wavemaker Partners. The round also had a number of angel investors, including Amplify L.A.’s Richard Wolpert.

GLASSELL PARK

Industrial Acquisition: West L.A.’s Rexford Industrial Realty Inc. has acquired a Glassell Park industrial building for $11 million from Schawk Inc., a brand development company. The 100,498-square-foot property, at 3116 W. Avenue 32, was built in 1974 and was previously a record pressing plant for Capital Records.

TORRANCE

Biotech Spinoff: Phenomenex Inc., a Torrance science technology company, will spin off a biological sampling-focused business. The new company, Neoteryx, which also will be in Torrance, will develop technologies and products for the collection, handling, and analysis of biological fluids in the pharmaceutical and clinical industries.

WESTSIDE

BEVERLY HILLS

Moving In: Partners Trust Real Estate Brokerage & Acquisitions in Beverly Hills has acquired Areté Estates, a Malibu-based luxury real estate firm known for representing high-net-worth clients and properties. Areté’s Malibu headquarters will rebrand as Partners Trust and serve as the Beverly Hills firm’s sixth location in the greater L.A. area.

Delisted: Davi Luxury Brand Group Inc., a Beverly Hills developer of skin care products, has voluntarily delisted from over-the-counter trading. The company was eligible to deregister because it has fewer than 300 stockholders.

CENTURY CITY

Pet Pickup: Ares Management, a Century City private equity firm, has acquired National Veterinary Associates, an Agoura Hills-based animal hospital chain, from Boston investment firm Summit Partners. Senior management of National Veterinary, which has more than 240 animal hospitals operating in California and 38 other states, will retain a minority stake. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Overseas Sale: Capstone Turbine Corp., a Chatsworth maker of microturbines, has sold one of its C800 power systems to an Indonesian cement factory. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
