Sharon Allen was promoted to managing partner of Deloitte & Touche in Los Angeles. She will be responsible for overseeing Southern California and Nevada markets. Allen was most recently managing partner for the firm’s Portland/Boise practice.

Jan Taylor Bauer was appointed senior vice president at GCI Group in Los Angeles. She will oversee the marketing practice. Bauer was previously vice president at Fleishman-Hillard in Los Angeles. Also, Joseph Reiser was named vice president. He will be responsible for clients in the corporate and technology practice. Reiser was most recently senior group manager at the Bohle Co. in Century City.

Janet M. Thompson was named chief executive and president at the Designory/Pinkhaus in Long Beach. She will oversee operations and integrative marketing campaigns. Thompson was most recently vice president of Interactive Golf in Carlsbad. Also, Paul Hosea was appointed executive account director. He will oversee brand building and client relationships. Hosea was previously senior marketing director at George P. Johnson in Torrance.

Patricia Turnham was appointed general manager for Dolphin Data in El Monte. She will oversee operations and sales. Turnham was previously general manager for Continental Graphics in Irvine.

Architecture

Kirk Rose was named director of entertainment design for SMP/SHG. He will oversee the entertainment design practice for SmithGroup. Rose was most recently vice president and operations director for Studio E at Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum in Santa Monica.

David M.V. Barnes was appointed senior vice president of Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin in Los Angeles. He will be responsible for providing merger and acquisition, private equity, and debt and equity placement services. Barnes was most recently vice president of strategic planning for Protection One in Culver City.

Dorian Khouri was named Southern California market head of UBS AG in Los Angeles. Khouri was previously executive director of Swiss Bank.

Mark Lefko was appointed director of corporate transactions at Kibel Green Issa in Los Angeles. Lefko was most recently managing director of Tegral Capital Associates.

Construction

George A. Brenner was named vice president and chief information officer at Kaufman and Broad Home Corp. in Los Angeles. He will direct technology and telecommunications applications and network computing. Brenner was most recently vice president and general manager of the e-business application services unit of Candle Corp. in El Segundo.

Education

Gregg Alpert was appointed national director of distance education at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He will work with faculty to adapt current courses and create new classes for distance education. Alpert was most recently a technology integration specialist at Milken Community High School.

Entertainment

Stephanie Coyle was appointed vice president of finance at KTTV-TV Channel 11 in Los Angeles. Coyle was most recently vice president of finance and assistant business manager with KSAZ-TV in Phoenix.

Shari Trout was appointed commercial producer at Belief in Santa Monica. She will produce in-house commercials and broadcast design projects. Trout was previously a staff advertising producer at Foote, Cone & Belding in Los Angeles.

Government

Jeffrey Walden was promoted to director of Mayor Richard Riordan’s L.A. Business Team. He will manage 18 staffers assisting the business community with site selection, permits, financing and job training. Walden was previously the team’s senior business development representative.

Graphic Design

Scott Lomas was named marketing strategist for D Zone Studio in San Pedro. He will develop business strategies for the firm and marketing strategies for clients. Lomas was previously sales and marketing director at Capa in Irvine.

Health Care

Gaston Bernstein was promoted to Western regional sales director of health information technology for ProVantage Health Services in Torrance. He will be responsible for sales and marketing of data products, monitoring tools, and risk management services. Bernstein was previously regional sales manager for the company.

Nancy J. Lee was promoted to vice president of patient care services for Daniel Freeman Hospitals in Long Beach. She will oversee patient care staff and maintain staff/physician relations at the Inglewood and Marina del Rey facilities. Lee was previously chief nursing officer for the Inglewood facility.

High Tech

Les Culver was promoted to vice president of acquisitions and strategy and Roger House was promoted to vice president of business development at Platinum Equity Holdings, an L.A.-based firm specializing in acquiring and operating mission-critical tech organizations and technology-enabled service companies worldwide. Both will oversee deal flow, internal management of transactions, and development of merger and acquisition associates. Culver and House were most recently directors of business development for the company.

Law

Salvatore A. Barbatano has been named partner at Foley & Lardner in Los Angeles. He will be responsible for developing a full-time bankruptcy group and expanding the firm’s commercial practice. Barbatano was most recently a partner in the firm’s Chicago office.

Marilyn Barrett has been named partner at Alshuler Grossman Stein & Kahan in Los Angeles. She will be responsible for business formation, mergers and acquisitions, and tax court litigation. Barrett was most recently in practice as an independent attorney.

Joseph J. Bogdan was named partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips in Los Angeles. He will counsel technology and entertainment clients. Bogdan was most recently of counsel with Gardner, Carton & Douglas in Chicago.

Glen Hamakawa was named partner at Ernst & Young in Long Beach. He will be responsible for developing recruiting and retention strategies. Hamakawa was previously an audit specialist in the firm’s Japanese Business Services group.

Donald G. Norris and Douglas F. Galanter were named partners at Whitman Breed Abbott & Morgan in Los Angeles. Norris will specialize in contract and entertainment litigation, and Galanter will specialize in business and commerical litigation. They were most recently principals at Norris & Galanter in Los Angeles, which merged with Whitman Breed Abbott & Morgan.

James O. Thoma was named partner at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld in Los Angeles. He will focus on media and software finance. Thomas was most recently a partner at Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp in Los Angeles.

New Media

Cheryl Forberg was named health editor at Cooking.com in Santa Monica. She will create recipes, add nutritional information to recipes and menus, and write articles. Forberg was previously chef instructor at the Epicurean School of Culinary Arts in Los Angeles.

Darrell Gunn was named director of online promotions for Wherehousemusic.com in Torrance. He will be responsible for all label and artist promotions as well as overseeing all site content. Gunn was previously Web/IT director at NTR Enterprises in Baltimore.

James Segil was appointed vice president of marketing for Virtualis in North Hollywood. He will oversee marketing, public relations and business expansion. Segil was most recently brand manager for Hot Wheels at Mattel.

Brent Stumme was appointed chief financial officer and vice president of finance and administration at PropertyFirst.com in Alhambra. He will be responsible for accounting and financial planning, treasury and human resources. Stumme was most recently senior finance executive for the CalMat division of Vulcan Materials in Los Angeles.

Robert E. Weiner was appointed senior development director of Optimist Youth Homes in Los Angeles. He will be responsible for development and fund raising. Weiner was most recently senior development director for City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte.

Real Estate

Laura Pegler was named director of investor relations at Asset Management Consultants in Mission Hills. She will be responsible for enhancing current and prospective investor relationships. Pegler was most recently a sales and marketing consultant for Television Equipment Associates in New York.

Joe Williams has launched Value Finders Real Estate Appraisal Service in Los Angeles and is serving as chief executive. He will oversee the creation and delivery of electronic niche market property evaluations. Williams was previously regional vice president for First American’s West Coast Real Estate Appraisal operation.

Utilities

Lisa Lawson was named corporate communications manager for Southern California Water Co. in San Dimas. She will oversee and coordinate public outreach and communications. Lawson was previously public outreach manager at Mesa Consolidated Water District in Costa Mesa.
