They are also behind the Glass House Record Store in downtown Pomona.
The new store will be named Record Safari Los Angeles and is expected to open this year.
The Atwater Village property was used as a recording studio for 30 years.
Kennedy Wilson’s Christine Deschaine and Charlie Rogers represented the landlord in the lease.
“After multiple bids on this special locale in Atwater Village, we are thrilled to secure a tenant here whose future use will honor the history of the property’s recording studio roots while also shaping it to be a new placemaking destination for the music industry and local community,” Deschaine said in a statement.
“As the Los Angeles retail market continues on its road to recovery, this brick-and-mortar location showcases its staying power and the consumer demand for experiential retail,” she added.
The freestanding retail property was built in 1925. It is roughly 1,900 square feet and sits on a 10,200-square-foot lot with a dedicated parking lot and outdoor space, which made it attractive to the new tenant, according to Kennedy Wilson.
The property initially received interest from restaurant operators, but during the pandemic the leasing agents began to look at alternative operators.
In addition to selling vinyl albums, Record Safari Los Angeles will host community events like small concerts and food trucks.
It isn’t the only L.A. record store making news as of late.
In April, Amoeba Music opened its new home at El Centro, a mixed-use apartment complex at 6200 Hollywood Blvd. owned by DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners.
