Ellen Robbins is a trial lawyer with extensive experience litigating a broad spectrum of cases in state and federal courts, arbitrations and the International Trade Commission. She joined Akerman in August 2018 after 26 years at Sidley Austin. Robbins is as comfortable litigating multi-forum and “bet the company” cases for large public companies as she is representing individuals and smaller entities in more routine matters. Among her most notable representations, Robbins served as trial counsel in the Microsoft/Motorola smart phone patent litigation, including a landmark bench trial setting royalties for standard-essential patents, a subsequent jury trial where she obtained a favorable jury verdict for Microsoft, and ITC proceedings where she obtained an exclusion order. In another notable matter, she secured a $40 million judgment for a Fortune 500 company in a bench trial involving claims of alter ego and fraudulent transfer, which judgment was affirmed by the Seventh Circuit.
