LABJ Insider: Legally Speaking, These Lawyers Are the Best
Los Angeles Business Journal Editor Scott Robson

The Business Journal lawyered up last week.

Top attorneys throughout Los Angeles came together for our Leaders in Law virtual event, which singled out legal eagles across a range of categories.

Among the honorees were Reed Smith’s Janet Kwuon for Litigator of the Year, Milbank’s David Gindler as Intellectual Property Attorney of the Year, Sabina Clorfeine at SoCal Gas Co. as top In-House Counsel at a Public Company and Dawn Haghighi at PCV Murcor as top In-House Counsel at a Large Private Company.

We’d like to congratulate all the winners and nominees. (We’re not legally obligated to say that; we just want to keep all those lawyers on our good side…)

A video recap of the event and all the winners is available at labusinessjournal.com.

There are a couple of recent education gifts worth spotlighting. Cal State Dominguez Hills was awarded a $1.87 million grant from the state’s Bureau of Cannabis Control for research on the cannabis industry around Los Angeles, particularly in the South Bay. And Los Angeles Trade-Tech partnered with Bank of America on a $1 million jobs initiative to help train and upskill students of color. The program is part of BofA’s $25 million national effort to support underserved communities.

Finally, just a quick note to all of our Business Journal readers: It may seem strange to think that we have things to be thankful for in 2020. But there are plenty of positives to be found even in negative times — which is something we work hard to do week in and week out at the Business Journal. Here’s hoping every member of our business community has a safe Thanksgiving.
