Monday, November 9, 2020
El Segundo-based Pacific Defense Strategies Inc. has acquired military tech company Spear Research. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal, which was announced Nov. 5.
It’s the latest acquisition for Pacific Defense, which was founded less than a year ago and quickly scooped up defense communications company Spectranetix Inc. while also making a minority investment in software developer Perceptonics Solutions Inc.
Pacific Defense is backed by lead investors Emerald Lake Capital Management and HCI Equity Partners. The company develops electromagnetic spectrum technology that supports military communication and intelligence gathering.
According to an announcement from Pacific Defense, the company's latest acquisition provides a team of experienced engineers to support the development of radio frequency systems aided by machine learning and artificial intelligence components.
This in turn will allow Pacific Defense to provide “full scale, low risk solutions” for the U.S. Department of Defense and other potential customers, the company says.
The company also noted that the addition of New Hampshire-based Spear will give Pacific Defense new digital signal processing capabilities for development of communications platforms that meet U.S. military standards.
“Spear’s expertise will help us ensure that our customers can port their applications and rapidly get the capabilities and performance they need to pace the growing and complex threat environment,” Pacific Defense Chief Executive Travis Slocumb said in a statement.
