THE LATEST: Earlier this year Milken was in Pasadena to present Hamilton Elementary School teacher Nichole Anderson with a $25,000 Milken Educator Award. The award, which was founded by the Milken Family Foundation in 1987, seeks to inspire educators by honoring teacher excellence. The organization has presented nearly $70 million in individual awards.

BACKGROUND: Businessman turned philanthropist Milken is now focused on education reform. He chairs London-based Heron International Ltd., a property development and investment company, and the Milken Family Foundation, which he co-founded with his brother Michael. They also created early childhood education provider Knowledge Universe Education and spun off its Knowledge Schools subsidiary in 2015 for $1.3 billion.

WORTH NOTING: Milken received his law degree from UCLA School of Law, which also houses the Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy. He was No. 31 on the Business Journal’s 2018 list of Wealthiest Angelenos with an estimated net worth of $2.2 billion.
