Director, Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

THE LATEST: Brougher is the first director of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the $388 million museum set to open in Miracle Mile later this year. The museum, designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, is housed in the historic May Co. space (renamed the Saban Building) adjacent the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It will contain nearly 300,000 square feet of galleries, exhibition spaces, theaters, screening rooms, education centers and event spaces.

BACKGROUND: A longtime museum executive, Brougher was most recently at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., where he served as chief curator, deputy director and interim director. He has been director of the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford, was on the original curatorial team at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and worked on the development of the Geffen Contemporary.

WORTH NOTING: Brougher taught art history as an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University.
