Handbag Brand Hammitt Raises $2M

Hammitt Inc., a Hermosa Beach luxury handbag maker, raised $2 million dollars in funding from investors, according to a Feb. 6 securities filing.

The decade-old, Southern California design-inspired leather handbag company that Tony Drockton built up is in a reboot to upgrade its digital profile and amp up sales. A new collection is in the works with actress Jamie Chung, the recently named “brand ambassador.”

And last year, Hammitt named Andrew Forbes, a former Jimmy Choo executive, to be its new chief executive officer; and brought in Tracy Jankowski, formerly of BED|STU and Chinese Laundry, to run its marketing.

Hsuan Pai, who founded minimalist footwear brand Wal & Pai, also came onboard to oversee technical design efforts.

Filings show the company initially sought to raise $3 million but garnered $2,070,000 from three investors.
