Workplace software platform Lane Technologies Inc. has expanded to the West Coast.

The Toronto-based company, which provides technology to help building owners better connect with tenants, recently signed an exclusive agreement with Brookfield Office Properties Inc.

Lane will support Brookfield’s downtown properties, including the Wells Fargo Center and Bank of America Plaza. The agreement brings Lane to 9 million square feet in downtown.

Lane also is used by other companies in Los Angeles including Colliers International Group Inc.

Lane’s technology, available through a website or an app, is used by building owners to streamline operations and workplace amenities for property managers and tenants.

It can also make it easier for managers to post building notices, partner with retailers, and allow tenants to pay for parking, enter the building and book conference rooms.

“We connect everything in your work life and make it as easy to use as possible,” Lane Chief Executive Clinton Robinson said.

Robinson added that there is often a disconnect between owners or managers and their tenants when it comes to amenities and services. Lane makes it easier to understand and use a building’s offerings.

“I’m looking forward to the ability to have everything my tenants need as far as communication goes right at their fingertips,” Jazmyn Daigle, property administrator of the U.S. office division of Brookfield Properties, said in a statement. “Whether it’s information about the building, restaurants or upcoming events, they’ll be able to access it on their smartphones,”

Lane’s software helps owners better understand their properties, Robinson said, by allowing them to get real-time updates on what amenities people are using, what time they are getting to work and more.

That information, Robinson explained, can help building owners make more informed decisions about their properties.

“They are trying to figure out what’s working and offer better services,” Robinson said.

The software is highly customizable. Property owners can choose to add things like maintenance requests and tech support features.

By the end of 2020, Robinson expects to triple the amount of square footage the company supports downtown.

Robinson said Lane is focused on software and technology and can work with management groups and other office amenity providers.

Right now, the company is centered on office buildings downtown, but Robinson said Lane has been raising money to eventually expand into retail and multifamily buildings in L.A.
