Billboard Acquires Long Beach Live Music News Website Amplify

Billboard Music Group has acquired Amplify Media Inc., a live entertainment news website with offices in Long Beach, according to a Sept. 20 announcement by Billboard.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Amplify is a four-year-old site founded by Dave Brooks, a longtime music industry writer who contributed to New York City-based Billboard during his time as Amplify owner. Billboard is part of Eldridge Industries’ Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group.

Amplify will keep open its Long Beach office, according to the announcement, and will “continue to provide its subscribers the most insightful analysis and commentary on the music touring industry as well as its signature newsletter, The Real.”

The acquisition is the latest consolidation among music industry trade publications. Westwood-based Oak View Group, founded by live entertainment industry moguls Tim Leiweke and Irving Azoff, acquired last year live entertainment-focused Pollstar and venues-focused Venues Now.
