Upfront launches $40 Million ancillary fund, Disney builds one-legged robot, and La Kretz innovation campus opens.

La Kretz Innovation Campus Opens

The City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, and Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator launched the La Kretz innovation campus in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, according to a press release. A former furniture and fabric warehouse, the 60,000 square-feet facility serves as home to LADWP customer service and engineering staff as well as home to LACI, a non-profit clean-tech incubator.

Disney Builds One Legged Robot

Walt Disney Co. researchers have engineered a one-legged robot that balances and hops around on its own, reports TechCrunch. It is not clear how the robot may be used within the company’s business, but the device is being billed as a test bed for more complex locomotion in future robots.

Upfront Launches $40 Million Ancillary Fund

Upfront Ventures has set out to raise a $40 million ancillary fund, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The so-called Upfront IV Ancillary has yet to disclose raising any money.
