The Los Angeles City Council on Friday gave final approval for construction of a $250 million stadium complex near USC for Los Angeles Football Club soccer team.

The council unanimously approved the final environmental impact report for the complex on the site of the soon-to-be-demolished Sports Arena. When completed in 2018, the project led by architectural firm Gensler will include a 22,000-seat soccer stadium, and over 100,000 square feet of restaurants, office space, a conference center and soccer museum.

“We are excited to bring innovation and creativity to LA and deliver on our commitment to bring a state-of-the-heart experience to the community,” said Peter Guber, co-owner and chairman of Los Angeles Football Club. “We listened to and received input from the community in order to put forth a comprehensive plan that sets new standards for all future stadium projects.”

Los Angeles Football Club, an expansion team for Major League Soccer, was launched last year with two dozen co-owners besides Guber, including Earvin “Magic” Johnson, women’s soccer star Mia Hamm and actor Will Ferrell. It’s set to take the field upon completion of the soccer stadium, now slated for 2018.
