USC’s Sample Dies

Former University of Southern California president Steven B. Sample died Tuesday. He was 75.

Sample, who took the helm of the South Los Angeles campus in 1991, ran the university for nearly 20 years. He was credited with raising the school’s global presence and fundraising efforts, the Los Angeles Times reports. During his tenure, USC received five gifts of at least $100 million, and the university’s endowment rose to nearly $4 billion.
