American Apparel Inc. customers will now get the instant gratification of receiving their online orders within an hour.

The downtown L.A. clothing manufacturer announced a partnership Monday with on-demand delivery service Postmates Inc. of San Francisco to offer shoppers the opportunity to buy and receive basic items within an hour. Items ordered with standard shipping typically arrive in four to five days.

Thoryn Stephens, chief digital officer at American Apparel, said the partnership allows the company to improve its digital presence. She also said American Apparel is the first major fashion retailer to offer on-demand delivery of clothing basics.

“You’ll be able to receive hoodies, T-shirts, socks and more within a 60-minute delivery window,” said Stephens in a statement. “It’s great for traveling or last-minute needs.”

Shoppers will be able to order more than 50 of American Apparel’s core items for men and women. A total of 79 stores in 31 cities are participating. Once a customer places an order, an American Apparel employee will package it before it’s picked up by a Postmates driver.

American Apparel tested Postmates delivery in New York and San Francisco before rolling it out nationwide.
