A look at the plots of this weekend’s big new movie releases from a business perspective.

MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES – A pair of waitresses who lose their jobs for showing up drunk to work decide they need to rebrand themselves as more responsible and respectable in order to be successful. So when they see an online ad looking for “nice girls” they pass themselves off as, respectively, a hedge fund manager and a schoolteacher to land the opportunity. But pretending to be something they are not turns out to be a difficult job. This comedy is loosely based on the true story of what happened to two brothers who placed a Craigslist ad looking for dates to accompany them to a family wedding. Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick star.

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS – The animal control department in New York has a security problem to resolve when one of its trucks bound for the pound is attacked by an animal liberation group. But that turns out to be just the start of the problems for city authorities when it emerges that a major uprising is being planned in the city as retribution against people who have mistreated their pets. This animated family film features the voices of Louis C.K. and Kevin Hart.
