Los Angeles International Airport officials announced late Tuesday that the airport saw a second consecutive year of record-setting passenger volume. Year-end statistics showed the airport served 74,936,256 passengers in 2015, 6 percent greater than the 2014 record.

Also, a record 20,740,075 passengers were aboard international flights, or almost 9 percent higher than the previous year. Last year’s record 54,196,181 domestic passengers were up 5 percent. Other records were set in cargo processing, landings and take-offs.

“The record number of passengers and increased cargo activity at LAX reflect the investments being made at LAX,” said Deborah Flint, chief executive officer of Los Angeles World Airports, the city department that owns and operates LAX and two other Southern California airports. “The unprecedented $8.5 billion modernization program includes substantial capital improvements to virtually every terminal at the airport.”
