Bruin Biometrics, a Los Angeles-based developer of sensor-based diagnostic products, announced Monday that it has raised $9 million.

The latest round of funding will be used to bring a hand-held device for detecting early-stage pressure ulcers to market.

“Now that we have seen remarkable clinical results from early adopters, we have the financing needed to support initiatives to make the scanner the standard of care at every hospital and long-term care facility,” said Chief Finance Officer Sammy Lai, in a statement.

With FDA approval, the device, known as the SEM Scanner, could be available later this year.
