Biotech Entrepreneur Alfred Mann Dies at 90

Alfred E. Mann, a businessman and innovator who helped develop medical devices including the first rechargeable pacemaker and an artificial retina that allows the blind to see, died Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Times. He was 90. Over his career, Mann founded 17 companies and built a fortune of over $2 billion. He was the Business Journal’s Business Person of the Year in 2003.
