The owners and operators of a medical equipment supply company in Long Beach were sentenced Friday for their roles in a $1.5 million Medicare fraud scheme, the Justice Department announced Saturday on its web site. A federal jury in October convicted each defendant of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and five counts of health care fraud.

Amalya Cherniavsky, 41, and husband, Vladislav Tcherniavsky, 46, both of Long Beach, were ordered to pay $614,418 in restitution at the Friday hearing. U.S. District Judge Terry J. Hatter Jr. ordered Tcherniavsky to serve 51 months in prison while Cherniavsky was placed on probation.
