THE MONEY: Entered ranks of billionaires when homebuilding arm of family real estate business, Shapell Industries Inc., sold to Toll Brothers Inc. in 2013 for $1.6 billion.

BUZZ: Inherited 43 percent of family business after father, Nathan Shapell, died in 2007. Shapell, born in Poland, survived two Nazi concentration camps with brother David and brother-in-law Max Webb. Three co-founded Beverly Hills development company in 1955 and built about 70,000 homes and 7,000 apartments along California coast. Guerin sits on board of what remains of company but puts more time into philanthropy for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she serves as chair of board of directors. She and husband, Paul, donated $20 million to hospital in 2013 to establish congenital heart program and endow academic chairs in pulmonary medicine and pediatric neurosurgery. Guerin Family Pavilion at Skirball Cultural Center opened in fall.
