BUZZ: Combined management of his private equity real estate investment firm Colony Capital with publicly traded REIT Colony Financial; deal structured to reduce overall tax burden and increase management efficiency. Now executive chairman of combined company, which has Colony Financial name and more than 300 employees and 14 offices worldwide. Owns 500,000 shares of Colony Financial outright and has some control over 21.2 million shares. Colony Capital equity portfolio valued at $24 billion; when factoring in investments of entities in which it has equity stake, has total capital portfolio worth $60 billion. Investments include office buildings, hotels, Napa vineyards and stake in Sam Nazarian’s SBE hospitality group as well as Neverland Ranch and Annie Leibovitz’s photography portfolio.
