THE MONEY: One of 11 Hyatt hotel heirs, runs family-funded private equity and venture capital firm Pritzker Group alongside brother Jay, better known as J.B. Wealth grew as private equity and venture capital portfolio companies appreciated in value.

BUZZ: Pritzker Group Private Capital acquired Asheboro, N.C., packaging firm Technimark in April. Technimark was a family-owned business, the type of company Pritzker Group targets. Tony Pritzker told Business Journal, “We are best suited when we buy a business from a family or with a family.” Pritzker Group also moved three professionals from Chicago to its West L.A. office, and plans further expansion in Los Angeles. Venture capital arm invested in follow-on rounds for Venice mail-order razor company Dollar Shave Club and Santa Monica eco-friendly home and baby products firm Honest Co. Also made $50 million investment in Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX). Dartmouth University grad is co-chair of UCLA’s Centennial Campaign, attempting to raise $4.2 billion, largest-ever fundraising by public university. Avid runner has six children and one foster child. Grandfather A.N. Pritzker founded family empire, investing in real estate and small businesses in Chicago in the 1930s.
