Los Angeles-based CBRE Group Inc., one of the largest commercial real estate services firms, is in talks to possibly buy Johnson Controls’ Global Workplace Solutions, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters and the Wall Street Journal.

That division of Johnson Controls handles facilities and energy management for more than 1.8 billion square feet of corporate real estate around the world. The division could be worth more than $1 billion, sources said.

CBRE Group, which is located downtown, offers real estate services, including facilities management as well as brokerage and commercial mortgage services.

Negotiations are ongoing although a deal has not yet been reached. Neither CBRE Group nor Johnson Controls would comment.

CBRE shares closed Thursday at $34.53, up 0.9 percent.
