Stocks Fall; Ducommun Rises, Second Sight Slips

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 350 points in Monday trading to close at 17,596.

The S&P 500 fell 44 points to 2,058.

The Nasdaq fell 122 points to 4,958.

The LABJ Stock Index fell five points to 230.

Gainers and Losers

Monday’s biggest local gainer was Carson aerospace manufacturer Ducommun Inc. Shares rose 9 percent on the day, closing at $25.91 hours after the company announced it had completed a new $475 million credit agreement, refinancing hundreds of millions in debt at a lower interest rate.

Monday’s biggest loser was Sylmar’s Second Sight Medical Products Inc. Shares of the company, which is a maker of an artificial retina for blind patients, fell 6 percent on the day, closing at $13.72. The company announced last week that Will McGuire, most recently an executive with San Diego’s Volcano Corp., would become its new president and chief executive.
