Shoes Put Foot Down on Pain

Will women wearing stilettos seize the opportunity to stop carrying around an extra pair of low-heeled shoes to save themselves from further pain?

They might, if the recently opened Tanya Heath Paris store gains a foothold.

The French luxury shoe brand, which features interchangeable heels, just opened a shop in Beverly Hills, its first in this country.

Pame Schmider, owner of the local operation and the West Coast distributor for the brand, said she came across the shoes while traveling in Paris last year.

“When I was in Paris, I bought three pairs of shoes and 12 pairs of heels right off the bat,” she said. “I started talking with (founder) Tanya Heath and we clicked.”

Schmider proposed bringing the label stateside and convinced Heath to open in Los Angeles.

“She really wanted New York to be the first,” Schmider said, “but I was, like, this is going to work. It’s a perfect backdrop and people love new and innovative things in L.A.”

Shoppers get to pick a desired style and heel height in their preferred color. The shoes range from $495 to $575 and heels, which are sold separately, range from $45 to $120. Each heel locks into place but can be easily removed when pressing a button inside the shoe.

“You can change it up,” she said. “And when you travel, you have little heel bags you can put into your purse and change your heel out.”
