Walt Disney Co. is far from the only company to profit from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Fandango, the West L.A. company that sells movie tickets online, announced Monday that it sold more than 37 percent of the estimated $247 million in tickets for the movie’s U.S. opening. That marked the largest share of weekend sales for any movie in Fandango’s 15-year history.

According to the company, approximately one out of three U.S. tickets to the smash hit were purchased through Fandango’s online and mobile channels. The company also said sales were 92 percent higher than its previous best-selling week.

Fandango has had a record-breaking year with 70 percent year-over-year growth in ticket sales.
