Star Wars Land Rumors Fly Ahead of Disney Fan Fest

While the Walt Disney Co. will be revealing no fresh footage from the forthcoming Star Wars film at its D23 fan fest over the coming days, the entertainment empire may well announce huge new plans for the space franchise.

Speculation is growing that the convention will be used to reveal that a long-rumored Star Wars-themed land will be built at the company’s Disneyland resort in Anaheim.

Mice Chat is among several Disney fan sites to report that Disney will build the new area on land it owns just north of the park’s Toontown and that rides and shows for the area are already in the works.

Rumors of Star Wars Land have been around ever since the company bought the franchise’s parent, Lucasfilm, in 2012, but Disney won’t talk specifics on the eve of the Aug 14-16 D23 convention, which will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center.

“This will be the biggest Disney fan event ever with major announcements and surprises over three incredible days,” D23 spokesman Jeffrey Epstein told the Los Angeles Business Journal.

The event, expected to draw more than 65,000 fans, will see presentations and announcements of all Disney entertainment properties, including the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Marvel movie “Captain America: Civil War” and upcoming Pixar movie “The Good Dinosaur.”
