Opened House: Auctioneer and appraiser Doyle New York has opened an office in Beverly Hills. The new outpost, at 9595 Wilshire Blvd., will be overseen by Senior Vice President Nan Summerfield.
New Capital: Medbox Inc., a West Hollywood maker of medical marijuana dispensers, has secured an additional $500,000 from an existing lender. The name of the lender was not disclosed. Medbox said the money would be used to expand its business in key markets and for general corporate purposes.
Online Media: Evolve Media, a digital media publisher in Ladera Heights, has acquired lesbian lifestyle site AfterEllen.com from New York’s Viacom Inc. The site will become part of Evolve’s women’s-focused vertical TotallyHer. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Budding Business: BloomNation.com, a Santa Monica startup that connects local flower shops with customers, has raised $5.6 million in Series A funding. The company said the money will go toward expanding its team and further developing its online marketplace for florists. The round included participation by Menlo Park’s Andreessen Horowitz and angel investor Ronny Conway, among others.
On the Payroll: Talent Partners, a New York-based provider of talent, production and advertising services, said it would acquire PES Payroll, a Burbank provider of payroll and production services to the TV, film and live-event industries. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
On the Job: Internships.com, an online student internship marketplace, has been purchased by Chegg, a Santa Clara student learning platform. Internships, a division of Burbank’s CareerArc Group, has worked with Chegg on connecting students with internships since 2013. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Oasis Contracts: Pasadena engineering services firm Tetra Tech Inc. has been awarded three indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contracts with the U.S. General Services Administration. The deals, called “One Acquisition Solution for Integrated Services” contracts, are designed to cover federal agencies’ needs across a range of services.
Apartments Purchase: Pendo Investments of Manhattan Beach has purchased a Downey multifamily property for just under $18.6 million from Pasadena’s Downey Pointe Malcai. The two-story, 96-unit Downey Pointe Apartments, at 7301 Florence Ave., totals 85,242 square feet on 2.8 acres. The property was 97 percent occupied at the time of sale.
