Investors responded positively during the week ended Oct. 8 after the Federal Reserve decided to wait for more economic data before deciding whether to raise interest rates. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 1.1 percent to close at 16,994, while the Nasdaq increased by the same percentage to close at 4,469. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 performed slightly better for the week, gaining 1.2 percent to hit 1,969. The LABJ Index also jumped 1.2 percent to close at 201, with 92 stocks advancing and 63 declining. Santa Monica online auto marketplace TrueCar Inc. was the biggest weekly gainer, with share prices soaring more than 25 percent on impressive monthly sales figures. Shares of Pasadena biotech firm Arrowhead Research Corp. tumbled nearly 49 percent following disappointing phase II study results for is hepatitis B drug, ARC-520.
