Beverly Hills Off to See ‘Wizard of Oz’

Beverly Hills is going old school as part of its yearlong centennial celebration.

The city’s Chamber of Commerce next week will throw what is billed as the ultimate drive-in movie night, hosting a screening of “The Wizard of Oz” at the historic Greystone Mansion and Park.

Alexander Stettinski, the chamber’s executive director, said the idea came from its president, John Bendheim.

“He came up with the concept to celebrate it in a very old-fashioned way to recapture the old feel of theater,” Stettinski said.

And the chamber felt “Wizard of Oz,” which is marking its 75th anniversary this year, was the best film to capture that mood.

“We figured it works together,” he said. “It’s having its 75th anniversary and Beverly Hills is having its 100th anniversary. And it’s family friendly.”

As might be expected with the tony address, the event comes with a premium ticket price. Drive-in tickets are priced at $250 per car; tickets for seats in the Warner Brothers Lounge, a section of chairs in front of the movie screen, go for $150 each. Tickets include Umami burgers and Sprinkles cupcakes. There will be old-fashioned carts serving traditional movie snacks such as hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy. Proceeds will benefit the chamber.

Luxury cars such as Aston Martins and Lamborghinis will be on display from sponsor and Beverly Hills luxury car dealership O’Gara Coach Co.

Stettinski said the event is already a hit as all of the 70 parking spaces have sold out.
