Strip Club Evacuated After Oil Pipe Burst

A Thursday morning oil spill that sent 10,000 gallons of crude oil spewing skyward over Atwater Village forced the evacuation of a strip club.

Gentlemen’s Club on West San Fernando Road near L.A.’s border with Glendale was evacuated after a geyser of crude oil shot high into the air and covered the roof shortly after midnight, Bloomberg reported.

Two workers from health care company Baxter were also sickened today by fumes from the spill and hospitalized, KNBC (Channel 4) reported.

The leak came from a valve failure at a pump along an above-ground, 20-inch oil pipeline that runs from the Bakersfield area to Long Beach. The pipeline is operated by Plains All-American Pipeline of Houston.

The crude oil was knee-deep in places. Portions of San Fernando Road and other thoroughfares were closed today to motorists. The oil line was remotely shut off Thursday morning and the cleanup is expected to continue for several days.
