Laid-Back Luxury Looks To Clean Up

Ever wished you could just lie down and sleep through your morning shower?

Aloys F. Dornbracht might make that possible. The German kitchen and bathroom product maker has created a horizontal shower that allows the user to lie on a long bench as six ceiling jets spray down water.

The system made its North American debut at the Santa Monica showroom of Snyder Diamond last week.

“It’s similar to a ritual spa treatment in France and Germany,” said Russ Diamond, president and owner of Snyder Diamond. “It’s taking that element that you could go to the spa to get and putting it into the home.”

The shower comprises six recessed ceiling jets that can be programmed to run at alternating temperatures, pressures or quantities with a remote. The user then lies down on a bench and lets the water run.

The showers begin at $35,000. Despite the hefty price tag, Diamond expects them to be a hit among his high-end clientele as well as the architecture and design community.

“As soon as I saw it, I said I want to be the first to show the product in the U.S.,” said Diamond, who debuted Dornbracht’s first products in the United States three decades ago. “You’ll see others emulate it.”
