U.K. Defense: Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., a Pasadena engineering services firm, has been awarded an advisory services contract from the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence’s equipment and support division. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Clean Contract: Tetra Tech Inc., a Pasadena engineering services firm, has been awarded a $400 million contract to provide technical assistance for the U.S. Agency for International Development’s clean-energy program development in critical priority countries. The countries are Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, South Sudan and Yemen; others could be added later. The contract has a five-year ordering period.

Medical Money: Neumedicines Inc., a Pasadena biotech company developing a radiation treatment and cancer therapy, has been awarded $8.3 million from the Biomedical Advanced Research & Development Authority of the Department of Health and Human Services for the continued development of Neumedicines’ HemaMax for acute radiation sickness. The award is based on the exercise of option one of an existing contract with Barda for advanced development of HemaMax.



Allergy Center: Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach has opened its Food Allergy Center, which provides evaluation and treatment for children with known or suspected food allergies. The center is the first specialized pediatric food allergy facility in Southern California. The new center, on the ground floor of Miller, offers an array of food allergy care, including skin testing, patch testing and oral immunotherapy.



Hospital Honored: Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in Los Feliz has been named to the Honor Roll of the nation’s best children’s hospitals by magazine U.S. News & World Report. It is only one of 10 children’s hospitals in the country and the only one on the West Coast to make the list. The hospital also was ranked fifth nationally overall. U.S. News’ rankings are based on clinical and operational data in 10 different pediatric medical specialties.


Delist and Deregister: Social Cube Inc., a Miracle Mile online and social gaming company, has decided to delist its stock from the Over the Counter board and deregister from Securities and Exchange Commission reporting requirements. Company executives said that the moves would help Social Cube save money.



Taking Spaces: Pitch Inc., a Culver City marketing agency, has been named ad agency of record for Living Spaces Furniture, a Rancho Cucamonga retail chain. Pitch will work with Living Spaces to refresh the brand from top to bottom, including a complete redesign of the logo and brand identity as well as a new approach to the chain’s TV and online promotion.



Gassed Up: Applied Natural Gas Fuels Inc., a Westlake Village fuel company, has signed a contract with the Orange County Transportation Authority to supply liquefied natural gas to the organization’s bus fleet. The contract calls for Applied Natural Gas to provide an average of 400,000 gallons of liquefied natural gas per month to two fueling stations. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
