Payroll Action: Cast & Crew Entertainment Services, an entertainment industry payroll provider in Burbank, has been acquired by ZelnickMedia, a New York private-equity firm. Cast & Crew, with services that include managing payroll, accounting and production incentives, had been owned by Abry Partners, a Boston private-equity firm. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Funding Round: OpenX Software Ltd., a Pasadena firm that provides digital and mobile ad revenue products and services, has completed a $22.5 million Series E funding round. The round was led by Samsung Venture Investment Corp., owned by the South Korean electronics giant. OpenX will use the money on general corporate purposes.
Keeping Kosher: Mikawaya, the Vernon maker of Mochi Ice Cream and other Japanese-influenced treats and desserts, has been granted OK Kosher Certification, named for the Brooklyn-based non-profit that awards the certification. Kosher foods are ones that conform to Jewish dietary law. Kosher certification is earned by using a list of kosher-approved ingredients, and making sure that there is a separation of kosher and nonkosher food production practices. In addition, a rabbi inspects the production facility to make sure standards are being maintained.

Healthy Pickup: DRX, a downtown L.A.-based provider of Web shopping and enrollment systems for Medicare health plans, has been acquired by Connecture Inc., a Brookfield, Wis., firm focused on sales technology for the health insurance industry. Connecture bought DRX to expand beyond the commercial insurance market. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Sweet Infusion: Sprinkles Cupcakes, a Beverly Hills-based operator of cupcake shops, has received an investment from KarpReilly LLC, a Greenwich, Conn., private-equity firm. The amount of the investment was not disclosed. Sprinkles will use the money to fund its expansion plans.
Retail Turn: EagleRider Motorcycle Rental, a Hawthorne motorcycle rental and tour company, has rebranded its used-bike website to UsedMotorcycles.net.
Industrial Property: Impex GLS Inc., a Chicago logistics company, has purchased a Carson industrial building for $3.6 million from Smileland Co. LLC. The 33,880-square-foot property, at 1229 E. Walnut St., sits on a 1.5-acre plot.
