Hollywood online service provider J2 Global Inc. announced it has acquired Dutch cloud storage firm Backup Connect BV.

The move increases J2’s international presence, bringing Backup Connect’s customer and support bases in Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand under its control.

“This acquisition reflects our continued interest in the online backup space and our commitment to growing this business globally,” said Chief Executive Hemi Zucker. “We look forward to pursuing additional acquisitions in this space and to leveraging and extending our localized global online backup footprint.”

J2 has been an acquisitive company since its inception. EFax, its main business, itself came from an acquisition in 1999, four years after it was founded. Other than online faxing, J2 has branched out into numerous online services including cloud storage, online backup, and most recently as an owner of several Web properties.

J2 shares closed up 24 cents or 0.6 percent to $38.34 on the news.
